Permanent exhibition at the Bunker Museum Oberhausen

ArtOberhausenBunker
Since 2001, visitors have been gaining an authentic insight into a World War II air raid shelter at the Bunker Museum in Oberhausen. The permanent exhibition "Home Front" addresses what the aerial war meant for the people and establishes connections to the present.

The exhibition "Home Front. From Blitzkrieg in Europe to Air War over the Ruhr" addresses the impacts of air warfare in World War II on the Ruhr area and Europe. Using regional and British examples, it becomes clear how wars uproot people, destroy livelihoods, and turn the homeland into a front both then and now.

For guided tours of the permanent exhibition, a prior message to info-gedenkhalle@oberhausen.de is required. Additionally, appointments for a accompanying workshop can be arranged. The workshop addresses historical experiences of the Oberhausen population and a pan-European perspective and examines the extent to which air defense and aerial warfare shaped the "home front" in World War II sustainably. The Nazi attack policy is taken into account in this module as well as allied bombings and the engagement with current conflicts and wars - oriented towards the NRW history curriculum. Appointments can be arranged via email at paedagogik-bunkermuseum@oberhausen.de.
