Time Travel: BaseCamp Young Hostel

A covered campsite? Sounds paradoxical. The Bonn BaseCamp makes it possible – it advertises with the label "first and only indoor vintage campsite in the galaxy." There is also a lot to discover here.

They are called "Flower Power," "Hunter's Lodge," or "Traveller." And they look just like that: Because inside all those living and sleeping cars that the BaseCamp Young Hostel has gathered in Bonn, the name is program. They are decorated in brightly colored retro looks, with deer curtains or postcards from all over the world. The design of the accommodations is the work of film and stage sculptor Marion Seul.

20 unusual dwellings are parked in an indoor hall, from the hippie wagon to superhero vehicles to safari sleds. If you like, you can spend the night with a view of snow-covered mountains in a former mountain cable car gondola.

When? Year-round. Because even in bad weather, the sun seems to shine from the photo wallpaper here.

Costs: Generally, prices for an overnight stay in one of the retro caravans or US Airstreams start at 30 euros per night. Special offers, such as stays in sleeper car compartments, start at 69 euros.
